T
ribal Spirit is Joywind and Robert Todd, native artists of Shuswap, Simpcw First Nation, British Columbia and Mohawk/Scottish descent. Our passion is Native Art and Spiritual Craft, with a special emphasis on sharing the traditional teachings of Canada's tribal peoples through our work. Please visit our new e-commerse site www.tribalspiritmusic.com where you will be able to buy drums and music we we produced...
Our original works include Powwow Drums, Hand Drums, Caribou Antler Dreamcatchers, Black Ash Baskets and a wide range of Native Jewellery. Our Powwow Drums have become very popular throughout North America and we are honoured to have built Drums for some of the best and up-and-coming drum groups out on the trail. Recently we built the Powwow Drums for the winners of the Gathering of Nations, Summer Solstice AFN Powwow in Ottawa and the Mawio'mi Powwow in Halifax as well as the First Nation Drums in the Cirque du Soleil's newest show TOTEM.
We attend many powwows and art shows throughout North America, and at most events, we can be found demonstrating and explaining the techniques of our various creations. Sharing with people is important because it preserves traditional art and teachings by simply passing them on, and creates an exchange of ideas and experience...which is really what the Powwow is about.
We share stories to go with our art so people can understand the tradition behind the craft and be able to pass it on. Creating art is a spiritual quest, and this process takes so much effort and commitment that we believe it is important to share what we learn with others.
Our Raw Hide and Leather
We live in an area of Quebec where there is a healthy population of deer and moose and families still hunt to feed their families. Each fall we gather deer and moose hides from hunters and we transform this "waste" product into wonderful deer and moose leather. All of our drums and leather work are made from leather which we have gathered ourselves. We also have deer and moose leather, as well as deer raw hide available for our customers.
Tribal Spirit has three web sites?
As you may have noticed we have three web sites....We put up this site almost 10 years ago...(over the next few months we plan to do more writing/bloging on this site. As time when on, our efforts came to focus on drum making so we build our www.nativepowwowdrums.com site. This site is full of information on our work and has lots of pictures.
And new for Fall 2011 our e-commerce site....www.tribalspiritmusic.com. We needed to make it easier for customers to by our drums..And over the past two years we have built a CO-OP Native Music Label, recording and producing powwow and hand drum music. www.tribalspiritmusic.com is the only label offering Native Music available online for download!! We hope you love it!!!
