Tribal Spirit, Native Art and Spiritual Craft

Tribal Spirit is Joywind and Robert Todd, native artists of Shuswap, Simpcw First Nation, British Columbia and Mohawk/Scotish descent. Our passion is Native Art and Spiritual Craft, with a special emphasis on sharing the traditional teachings of Canada's tribal peoples through our work. Please visit our e-commerce site www.tribalspiritmusic.com to purchase drums and Naitve American Powwow and Hand Drum Music.

Our original works include powwow drums, hand drums, caribou antler dreamcatchers, black ash baskets and a wide range of native jewelry. Our Powwow Drums have become very popular throughout North America and we are honoured to have built drums for some of the best, and upcoming best drum groups out on the trail. Recently we built the powwow drums for the winners of the Gathering of Nations singing contest, the Powwow Idol singing contest as well as the First Nation Drums in the Cirque du Soleil's newest show TOTEM.

Raw Hide and Leather: We live in an area of Quebec where there is a healthy population of deer and moose and families still hunt to feed their families. Each fall we gather deer and moose hides from hunters and we transform this "waste" product into wonderful deer and moose leather. All of our drums and leather work is made from leather which we have gathered ourselves. We also have deer and moose leather, as well as deer raw hide available for our customers.

Our art is unique, superbly hand-crafted, and always beautiful, the result of over 20 years of gathering stories, traditions and techniques. All our work is "functional art", as it is not only decorative, but carries with it a deeper spiritual intent.

We share stories to go with our art so people can understand the tradition behind the craft and be able to pass it on. Creating art is a spiritual quest, and this process takes so much effort and commitment that we believe it is important to share what we learn with others.

We attend many powwows and art shows throughout North America, and at most events, we can be found demonstrating and explaining the techniques of our various creations. Sharing with people is important because it preserves traditional art and teachings by simply passing them on, and creates an exchange of ideas and experience...which is really what the Powwow is about.
